5 Must-Have Skincare Products To Add To Your Beauty Routine
--
One hobby that I’ve picked up during the pandemic is skincare. Not only does it help boost my confidence, but also gives me time for self-care even when I’m busy! As someone who has had severe acne, I know that having skin issues can be a major source of insecurity for many; therefore, I wanted to share some products that have been recommended to me by my Dermatologist as well as products that are highly recommended by skincare enthusiasts and bloggers alike.
1. Niacinamide
Niacinamide is a serum with a watery consistency. It feels very light on the skin, and I usually put it on first thing in my routine (after cleansing my face, before moisturizer). Niacinamide has helped greatly with my post-acne hyperpigmentation and discoloration. I would say it is a personal favorite because, unlike many other products, with Niacinamide, you can see a noticeable change in a short period of time. My personal favorite is The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%, but The INKEY List Niacinamide is also great!
2. Retinoid
Retinoids are products that come in many forms, one of which is Retinol, the over-the-counter and accessible version of Retinoid. Tactupump was one of the first products recommended to me by my family doctor when my acne started getting worse. Tactupump contains benzoyl peroxide and adapalene, which is a retinoid. Retinoids are generally stronger than Retinols, which is why I have now transferred to using Retinols in my routine. It can be used alongside Niacinamide (after Niacinamide, before moisturizer) and has an oil-like consistency. It is important to note that, Retinol is a strong product and, to start, it should only be used once a week or biweekly. After you have built up resistance, you can start applying every other day (even then, it is still important to look out for side effects such as redness, stinging, and pilling).
