A Canadian’s Path to U.S. Dental School: Where and How to Apply
I can picture it like it was yesterday. Last year in May, I started crafting my Personal Statement and researching American dental schools that I could apply to. As a Canadian student, I knew that Canadian dental schools had limited seats and were highly competitive, so I decided to broaden my horizons by applying to American dental schools to avoid taking a gap year.
The only problem was that much of the information online was outdated, and all the lists I found had a maximum of 10 American dental schools that I could apply to as a Canadian. This left me feeling a tad bit disappointed because I wanted to apply to as many schools as possible. Just like any pre-dent, I was hopelessly neurotic about not getting in. I even reached out to my university’s pre-dental club, and one of the club executives told me that barely 10 American dental schools accept the Canadian DAT. This made me feel really disappointed until I did my own research and found that in reality, there are over 20 schools that accept the Canadian DAT and are known to be Canadian-friendly. The point is, not only does the internet have limited information, but in-person connections may also provide misguided advice.
