I don’t know about you, but I’m always on the lookout for new book recommendations. I’m consistently surprised by how many different genres are out there and how many different niche topics are explored in books. Last semester, I took a really exciting course with an excellent professor about animals in literature, and I got to explore a genre I had yet to discover. As someone who really enjoys learning about animal biology, I found that exploring it via literature was also just as rewarding. As such, I have compiled a list of books I particularly enjoyed and would recommend. So, without further ado, these are my top three picks.

If Cats Disappeared from the World

If Cats Disappeared from the World (2012) by Genki Kawamura is about a mailman who receives the news that he has Stage 4 Cancer. In an attempt to make up for lost time, the devil shows up at his doorstep and decides to give him a unique deal: in exchange for making something disappear in the world, the devil would extend his life for a day. It has quite a unique plot, and I won't give too much away in an effort not to spoil it, but I can say the ending is not what you might expect!
